    Research interests include sound and technology studies, film music, cognitive film theory, aesthetic theory, silent cinema, emotion and affect in media, and production cultures. His publications have appeared in the Journal of Cinema and Media StudiesFilm History, and Music and the Moving Image. In 2017 he received the Katherine Singer Kovács Award from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies for his article “The Myth of the Speakers: A Critical Reexamination of Dolby History.” He is currently writing a book about the history of film stereo for the University of California Press.
