I would recommend MCS to prospective students because it is a challenging but fun major. You learn critical thinking but also creative thinking. And get to apply it all to your classwork. My senior project in 2014 was a documentary on Washington DC's NFL controversial team name. And when I went to the team's stadium every Sunday to film people laughed at the idea of changing the name. However, everyone in the MCS major really supported my project idea. Turns out the project aged really well. Getting a degree in Media Studies did not directly help me in TV Accounting...but it did help me understand all the moving parts to make production work; prep, schedules, crew, subjects, clearance, editing, and money. Understanding that any role in Media is a team effort and you need to work together.

Reflections on CUA Media Studies

I interned at a Media Buying Agency and as a Marketing Creative Intern at The Discovery Channel. Each of them help broaden my horizons on all the jobs available in the media world. Getting a degree in Media Studies helped me understand all the moving parts to make production work; prep, schedules, crew, subjects, clearance, editing, and money. Understanding that any role in Media is a team effort and you need to work together.
