Spencer Parker
I oversee a creative team that develops and produces integrated content for the Entertainment & Youth Channels at ViacomCBS (MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, etc). We work with major advertisers like McDonalds, Pepsi, P&G, Cover Girl, and GEICO to create custom content that connects brands with programming like The Daily Show, Ru Paul's Drag Race, Love & Hip Hop, The Challenge and The VMAs. Prior to this job I have worked as a production assistant, art assistant, production coordinator, production manager, producer and director on a range of projects from feature films to episodic television and from reality TV to long form documentaries. When I started a CUA I was totally unsure of what I wanted to do for a career. I knew that I liked being creative and telling stories, but it wasn't clear to me how that would translate into a job. Many of the tools that have proved most useful to me came from my time in the CUA Media Studies program.

Reflections on CUA Media Studies

I'm grateful to the Media Studies program because it allowed me to explore a lot of different opportunities all while giving me a strong academic foundation. My experience is that there is no direct path into the creative field - if you want to write, direct, produce, or in any other way create stories to share with the world, you have to blaze your own trail. The most important thing is that you arm yourself with a variety of tools for that journey. Many of the tools that have proved most useful to me came from my time in the CUA Media Studies program.
